Young stars shine off and on the pitch

Leeds Carnegie Academy Manager Mark Luffman says he is excited about the future of the club after the latest crop of players proved their abilities off and on the pitch this week.
A number of the players did exceptionally well in their A Level results led by Ollie Cicognini who gained 3 A* and an A whilst they also enjoyed the chance to train on the Headingley Carnegie pitch under the watchful eyes of Director of Rugby Chris Gibson, British Lions star John Bentley and the club’s new Executive Chairman, Sir Ian McGeechan earlier this week.

Commenting on the week, Luffman said, “On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to congratulate the lads on their A Level results. Here at Leeds Carnegie we place a huge importance on a young players educational needs especially through our partnership with Prince Henrys in Otley. Being a professional rugby player is a short career, even if you make it to the very top, and it is important that they have an education to rely upon post rugby.

“It was great to have the chance to train as an Academy group together at Headingley Carnegie earlier this week and I would like to especially thank Jason Booth and his team for giving us permission to do so. The players really enjoyed the experience and it was about setting the standard for the year for the Academy players. John Bentley spoke to them about what you need to do to succeed at the very top and the guys really appreciated his input, in his own unique way!”
