Monye out for 12 weeks

Ugo Monye underwent successful surgery on Friday evening and will be out for up to 12 weeks.

The extent and duration of the injury will be known more clearly after further consultation with the surgeon, and further updates will be given.

Recognising the need to provide alcohol information to players, Premier Rugby and Diageo have joined forces to develop and deliver an innovative attitudes to alcohol programme to every player and manager in the Guinness Premiership, achieving extremely positive results.

The programme has been designed to inform participants about alcohol and its effects on the body and behaviour, making them more aware of the choices they make when drinking.

Quins get boost from Monye and Care return

Quins fans will be delighted by the return of Danny Care and Ugo Monye from this season’s Autumn internationals, for tomorrow’s Guinness Premiership game against Gloucester. They will be joined in the starting line-up by their England team mate Nick Easter, who returns from a calf injury sustained against Worcester.

With the return of Nick Evans last week for the away trip to Franklins’ Gardens, the 23 man Quins team is almost back to full strength and, with just the awaited return of team Captain Will Skinner and Argentine International Gonzalo Tiesi, it will be a strong and determined team that will run out at the Stoop tomorrow (Saturday).

RFU Podcast: Shaw returns

Simon Shaw returns to the international stage on Saturday to take on the All Blacks at Twickenham in the Investec Challenge Series.

Winning his 53rd cap at the age of 36 the Wasps lock is relishing his comeback “I had lots of fun on the Lions tour and I can’t wait to get back to playing international rugby.” Shaw tells this week’s rfu.com podcast.

Shaw is one of three changes in the starting line-up for Saturday along with flanker Joe Worsley (London Wasps) and Biarritz centre Ayoola Erinle and there is a positional switch at full back where Mark Cueto (Sale Sharks) trades places with Ugo Monye (Harlequins).

England team to face NZ – Shaw, Worsley & Erinle in

England have made three changes in personnel to the side to face New Zealand in the Investec Challenge international at Twickenham on Saturday (2.30pm).

London Wasps lock Simon Shaw, flanker Joe Worsley and Biarritz centre Ayoola Erinle come into the starting line-up and there is a positional switch at full back where Mark Cueto trades places with Ugo Monye.

Shaw takes over from Louis Deacon and wins his 53rd cap at the age of 36, former Wasps and Leicester centre Erinle makes his first start in place of Shane Geraghty (Northampton Saints) and experienced Wasps flanker Worsley replaces Tom Croft (Leicester Tigers) in the back row.
