‘Welsh’ heartbeat at Old Deer Park as strong as ever

londonwelsh The ‘Welsh’ heartbeat at Old Deer Park will reverberate as loud ever next season with nearly all of the club’s Welsh players agreeing new deals.

Scrum half Rob Lewis, centres James Lewis and Paul Mackey, hooker Dan George and second row Mike Powell have all committed to the club.

They’ll will be joined by under contract captain Jonathan Mills, who along with Paul Mackey, will be starting his fifth full season with the Exiles, hooker Saul Nelson and new head coach Lyn Jones.

Another to re-sign is Wales’ 2009 World Cup Sevens winning captain Lee Beach, who joined Welsh from Neath in 2009 and has gone on to make 50 appearances for the Exiles, scoring five tries.

“It’s good because it is London Welsh and the people behind the scenes are keen to keep it that way,” said Beach.

“I’ve enjoyed my last two years here, so I was more than happy to re-sign. I left Wales to play here and it’s a different level than at home.

“The semi-pro league in Wales is good, but the Championship is very, very competitive. Most of the teams are full-time professional and that’s great.”
