Sale Sharks Squad news

SALE SHARKSSale Sharks have announced their squad for the Aviva Premiership Round 5 game against Bath Rugby at The Recreation Ground on Saturday at 2.15pm.

The starting team shows six changes from last weekend, with Nick Macleod and Cillian Willis forming a new half back partnership.

Flanker James Doyle is set to make his senior debut for the club. Doyle (21) joined the Sharks from Leicester Tigers during the Summer. Scrum half Nathan Fowles (19) will make his first appearance in the Aviva Premiership if he comes off the bench. Fowles, a used replacement in the club’s Amlin Challenge Cup game at C.R.La Vila last January, comes from Rochdale and gained experience with Preston Grasshoppers last season.

Will Addison returns to the squad after a two game absence, whilst Dwayne Peel, Richie Gray and Henry Thomas are ruled out through injury.

Sharks’ Director of Rugby Bryan Redpath said, “There are opportunities for some of the younger boys in the club. It’s been tough after last Friday’s match and what followed at the weekend. We’re desperate to get another game under our belt because some of the parts of last week’s match weren’t what we expected.

“James Doyle and Nathan Fowles are two young members of the group. James has played exceptionally well for the Jets. He’s come in and worked really hard to put pressure on others at the club. They both need to go out and enjoy the game as much as they can.

“Last season, Sale Sharks went to Bath on the back of a disappointing home performance and won, later going on to complete a double. As I’ve said, last week was unacceptable and hopefully we can show a big improvement.”

David Seymour announced as Sharks’ club captain

Sale Sharks Director of Rugby Bryan Redpath has announced the appointment of David Seymour as captain, with Sam Tuitupou as vice captain.

Seymour has previous experience of skippering Sale Sharks, having led the side at the start of last season when former All Black Tuitupou was unavailable.

Redpath believes in Seymour he has the perfect man for the job."From watching Sale last year I could see even before getting here you could see how committed David is. He’s also a very smart rugby player and as flanker he’s around some very key people in the game," said Redpath.

"Playing at seven he’s always going to be around the contact area, he’s always going to be around that first breakdown. We need someone in there who is going to be close to the referees and be able to give some feedback.

"He leads by example in most things he does and he’s a great role model for both the other senior professionals and all of the younger guys at the club.
