Kingsholm to feature big screen technology in 2011-12

The matchday experience at Kingsholm will be improved next season thanks to the addition of two LED video screens courtesy of an enhanced sponsorship deal with allpay.

allpay has been a shirt and shorts sponsor at Gloucester Rugby for the last three seasons and has just agreed a new, enhanced five year contract which included the provision of two LED video screens.

The screens, which will be 50% bigger than those currently installed for televised games, will be situated at the top left of the JS Stand and in the gap between the West Stand and C&G Stand.

The screens will be provided by Elonex which has huge experience in the world of electronic pitchside branding with installations all over the world and technology developed from its Midlands based Research and Development facility.

Elonex was introduced to Rugby by Sir Clive Woodward who brokered a deal with the RFU supplying equipment to the England Team for the World Cup 1999. Just over a decade later Elonex is now looking to supply all the LED technology and Tablet computers to the sport.

The positioning of the screens, designed to be visible even in bright sunshine, means that supporters can see at least one screen from wherever they are watching the game in the stadium.

As well as showing live footage and action replays from the game in progress, the screens can be used to show highlights from previous games, interviews with players and coaches in addition to selected advertising and, of course, displaying the match score!

Gloucester Rugby’s Head of Sales and Marketing, Pete Grzonka, feels that, thanks to allpay, the screens will provide an improved matchday experience at Kingsholm.

“It’s something that we’ve been looking to do at Kingsholm for some time now as we explore different options to improve matchday for our supporters. Now, with allpay’s help, this is now set to become a reality.”

“The screens are of a high quality and we think that our supporters will be delighted with the results.”

“They’ll enable us to show all sorts of video content before, during and after the game and also give added value to our sponsors and corporate clients.”

Managing Director of allpay, Tony Killeen commented:

“As a company we like to be able to look at the bigger picture so this opportunity was perfect for us! We are committed to supporting Gloucester Rugby and are delighted to enhance everyone’s match experience with our latest investment.”

Rhydian to raise the roof at Millennium Stadium

The Welsh Rugby Union will be hitting all the right notes with fans tomorrow (Saturday, 28 November) – as Rhydian Roberts is set to perform new hit ‘O Fortuna’ before the Invesco Perpetual Autumn Series clash with Australia at the Millennium Stadium.

The classically trained X Factor finalist will raise the iconic roof with the title song from his new studio album before joining the traditional choir for a medley of Welsh rugby favourites and the national anthems.

Rhydian, who sang for the first time at the Millennium Stadium at the Grand Slam party in 2008, said: “I’m so grateful to the WRU for giving me this opportunity to fulfil a life time ambition of mine.

“The Millennium Stadium is my favourite place to sing and I’m more excited than ever before about tomorrow’s encounter between Wales and Australia. Diolch o’r galon. Cymru am byth!”
