Warriors team news

Hooker Chris Fortey is called into the front row for Worcester Warriors as the league leaders make the long trip to tackle Cornish Pirates in a televised RFU Championship clash in Cornwall on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 1pm).

Vastly experienced Fortey will pack down with the recalled Tevita Taumoepeau and Adam Black as Head Coach Richard Hill makes four changes to the side that defeated Bedford Blues at Sixways in the last league outing.

Former New Zealand international Greg Rawlinson will team up with Craig Gillies in the second row, with lock Graham Kitchener in action for England Saxons on Saturday afternoon at Sixways.

Wing Miles Benjamin also returns to the back line, with Tom Arscott moving to the replacements bench, while Marcel Garvey will look to reinforce his position at the top of the league try scoring charts on the other flank.

Lock Will Bowley is among the new faces called up to the bench and he is joined by England Under-20 star Matt Kvesic.

“We know the Pirates will building it up, if they can beat us home and away that gives them real confidence going into the play-offs. We certainly don’t want to give them a boost and will go down there to try and beat them,” said Head Coach Richard Hill.

“It would be nice to put a good performance on in front of the Sky cameras and show Championship rugby in a good light. It is a good competition with good clubs.

“It should be a good game. Pirates play good rugby, we play some 15-man stuff. You have two teams that want to play so we could have a showpiece for the league.

Hill rings the changes for Knights trip

Head Coach Richard Hill makes a number of changes to his starting line-up as Worcester Warriors head north to tackle Doncaster Knights in a rearranged RFU Championship encounter at Castle Park on Wednesday (kick-off 7.30pm).

Hill makes a total of eight changes to the side that defeated Esher Rugby in the club’s last league game at the end of November with five new faces in the back line as his selection closely matches the team that travelled to Rotherham Titans earlier in the campaign.

Willie Walker starts at full back, top scorer Marcel Garvey is back on the wing and Samoan centre Dale Rasmussen is paired with Rob Higgitt. A new half back pairing will see points machine Andy Goode and scrum half Andy Williams combine.

A change in the front row allows prop Adam Black to pack down with Chris Fortey and Bruce Douglas while Greg Rawlinson returns in the second row and Neil Best is recalled to join Pat Sanderson and captain Kai Horstmann in the back row.

Oliver Tomaszczyk and Adam Balding will add power from the replacements bench while Ollie Frost could play his first league game since signing a new two-year deal at Warriors.

Fortey set for two hundred

Hooker Chris Fortey is set to join the exclusive ’200 Club’ in the Guinness Premiership when Worcester Warriors entertain table topping Saracens at Sixways Stadium on Friday evening (kick-off 8pm).

Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock has selected the same starting line-up that drew 12-12 on home soil with Bath Rugby just seven days earlier as he looks for Warriors to secure a third home win of the campaign.

Fortey is named among the replacements and if he plays a part in the encounter will hit the magical 200 game mark in the English top-flight and move to fifth in the all-time league standings for games played.

“Chris is about to hit the 200 Club in the Guinness Premiership and this is yet another example of the durability, professionalism and skill of this Warrior over an extended period,” said Ruddock.

Hostmann returns for Worcester

Back row Kai Horstmann returns to the starting line-up for Worcester Warriors as they entertain Bath Rugby in the Guinness Premiership at Sixways Stadium on Friday night (kick-off 8pm).

Horstmann, who has been out of action since mid-September, returns to the pack for his fourth league appearance of the campaign.

Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock makes a total of 13 changes to the line-up that faced Scarlets in the LV= Cup last weekend as he recalls those who were rested for the trip to Wales.

Garvey returns to Warriors starting lineup

Wing Marcel Garvey returns to the Worcester Warriors team as the club launches its LV= Cup bid against Newcastle Falcons at Sixways Stadium on Saturday (kick-off 12.30pm).

Speedster Garvey is back in the starting line-up for the first time since injuring his hand against Montpellier in early October.

New Zealand ace Rico Gear moves to outside centre to join forces with Sam Tuitupou, with Alex Grove not considered for selection after an intensive three-day training camp with Scotland this week.
