Sheridan settling in at the Lane
New recruit Eamonn Sheridan is loving life at Clifton Lane after joining up with Titans Rugby from Leinster Rugby during the summer.
The 23 years-old 6′ 4" powerhouse centre who has represented Ireland at U18 and U20’s level is eager to show people what he is capable of after an injury-plagued season last year at Leinster.
Sheridan explained, “I suffered quite a bad injury to my knee last season; I ruptured my cruciate and lateral ligaments during a pre-season game against Northampton Saints. But thankfully that has healed well now and I’ve got all the rehab done and my personal objective is I just want to get back to playing rugby and to perform to the best of my ability.”
Sheridan continued; describing his time at Leinster he said, “I was at Leinster for about 4 years in the academy and I was also in the sub-academy before that. The sub-academy is where you go after leaving school to attain further development before joining the main academy set up. The full academy at Leinster starts a little bit later than it would over here. I first started playing for Leinster at U18 level and I was with them until I came over here this year.
“Leinster is a great club and a tremendous place to play rugby and every thing about the place is very professional. Everyone works very hard at what they do and it was great for me to learn about rugby there when I was younger. I’m looking forward to hopefully showing what I can do now that I am at the Titans.”
Sheridan then revealed how his arrival at Clifton Lane surfaced, a message given to him by Andre Bester and how things are working out for him with the Titans, “Andre contacted me initially and then I spoke to our Manager at Leinster Guy Easterby, who played for Rotherham some time ago and he only had great things to say about the club. I also asked a few other people and the feedback was all good, so I decided to make the move across.
“A lot of hard work ahead was the main message that Andre put across and he didn’t sell it at the most glamorous place to go, but I don’t mind that at all. He said there would be a lot of tough work ahead but it would all be worthwhile.
“I’ve settled in really well and everyone that I’ve met has been really friendly and helpful. The boys are a great bunch and we all seem to be gelling really well together, everyone is just getting their heads down and working very hard. I knew a couple of the boys when I arrived; I played Ireland U18’s with Charlie Mulchrone and Ireland U20’s with Mick Noone.”
Sheridan concluded with comments about the club and its head coach, “I have heard that coming to the Titans is great for player development and sometimes players do move on to the next level from here. But hopefully we can win the Championship this year and no one will need to do that this time around.
“I think Andre is a very good man manager; he’s very good with individuals. He looks very closely and he’s very detailed in everything that an individual does. He looks at the individual and then tries to gel them as a team and I’m really enjoying my time working with him.”
