Nottingham announce the signing of Rory Lynn

rory lynnNottingham Rugby have announced the signing of promising fly-half Rory Lynn for the upcoming RFU Championship season.

Lynn, a 19-year-old former Derby and Matlock protégé from Ashbourne, makes the move across the East Midlands from the Leicester Tigers Academy to strengthen the Green and White options at Number 10.

After four years with the Aviva Premiership giants, Lynn has made the choice to follow the likes of Joe Cobden and Finlay Barnham to Nottingham in the search of first team rugby.

“It’s fantastic to be here at Nottingham.  I learned a lot during my time with Leicester, but at this stage of my development I felt that more game time was something that I needed to pursue.  I was impressed straight away with the quality of the facilities and the coaching team at the club and there are obviously a lot of talented young players within the squad,” said Lynn.

“I know how competitive the Championship is, it must be when you look at the size of some of the clubs and the profile of some of the players playing in the competition.  Trying to perform at this level will be a great chance for me to develop further as a player.  I’m confident in my ability and my aim is to work as hard as possible to push James Arlidge for that starting number 10 spot.”

Lynn got his first taste of action for the Green and Whites in their narrow defeat to London Irish and made a good impression as he pitted his wits against England fly-half Shane Geraghty.

“It’s always good to test yourself against players of the quality of Shane and Irish had that sort of quality throughout their squad.  I thought we performed well and gave them a really tough game.  I’m looking forward to the match against the Tigers now for another test against some of the best in the business.”

Nottingham Head Coach Martin Haag commented, “Rory has come in and made a good impression straight away.  He controlled the game against Irish with a maturity you don’t see in many 19 year olds and that was very impressive.  It’s good to have that extra competition in the squad as it keeps everyone on their toes and performing to the best of their ability.  I’m excited to see how he develops throughout the season.”
