Posting rubbish doesn't offend me. Just because you didn't identify them as British it doesn't mean other people didn't.

Presumably, the intention was an inoffensive, eclectic selection of popular British acts. Seeing as most people reckon it was rubbish, it seems that they achieved their aim.

Yet they missed out the second biggest selling British act of all time as well as most of the rest. You can appeal to youth by selecting people who actually are not offensive to listen to and you can have Queen there without having said offensive "performer" destroying their reputation just a bit more.

I don't even know what point you are trying to make here. Assuming that 'some idiots playing US style music' refers to Tinie Tempah and Taio Cruz (for I cannot see any other rappers on the set list), I would suggest that the idiot is you. "Written in the Stars" has a distinctly British sound, both in the lyrics and production, not to mention the guy's accent.

Weller.
XTC (or Partridge and Moulding).
Half-Man, Half-Biscuit.
Jethro Tull.
The Wurzels.
James.
Kate Bush.
The Fall.
The Undertones.
Edwin Collins.

Un-adulterated Brit-sound.

Elbow re-release for a Christmas number 1 anyone? With a nice little video montage of 'Our Golden Summer.' It's gonna happen.

Yes Africa..or more precisely West Africa.

All these bands mentioned all possibly deserve to be there, if all the athletes were over 40 but they weren't
I've always thought that the closing ceremony was for the all the Olympians to party and to let off steam after 2 weeks on intense pressure, not for a bunch off people sat in front of the TV's,
The trouble is how many people there had even heard of Ray Davies or The Who?. 5live had been trailing all day that there was only one "group" that the athletes wanted to see and that was the Spice Girls

The whole wretched event was poorly conceived and executed - IMO it should have gone:

Stones to kick things off

Then Floyd

Zepp

Bowie

Genesis [hate them, but they were a genuine 'world famous' band]

Eurythmics [what the hell was Annie Lezzox singing?]

Duran Duran

George Michael

Elton

Kate Bush

Coldplay [hate them, but once again they're a genuinely massive band]

Oasis / Blur

Sex Pistols

Take That

Motorhead or Maiden or Priest [I'd have loved all three, but 'hey ho']

Spice Girls

Macca

Then Queen for the big finale, with a hologram of Freddie singing We Are The Champions.
