If the net cost of the olympics inspires our fat children (not mine, they're lean and trim) to get off their arses and do more sport, then more's the good. Having a country where playing sport, rather than watching it would have the knock on effect of sorting out a lot of other problems.

You will come to regret that come armageddon and their is not a decent meal to be found between the three of them

It has been fantastic. Events like this always are and bring things to a city that just cant be measured by accountants and politicians in facts and figures.

I thought the Marathon yesterday was a fantastic advert for the city, its great seeing runners jogging past things as iconic as Buckingham Palace. The Equestrian centre at Greenwich is another picturesque highlight.

The test is always how the infrastructure (both housing at Olympic Village and the stadia) is used once the event is over, I think London is well placed because it has the population density and the park itself is relatively central (unlike say Homebush in Australia which is a distance out of the centre and has turned into a bit of a white elephant).

Im a convert, yeah i would have preferred the money to be invested so that we have the best facilities for every sport in every town of the UK, but I do really think the slogan "inspire a generation" really will do it.

My eldest is 4 now and although he comes and goes in front of the telly he has watched the swimming, the cycling, the tennis, the track and field and cheered on all the athletes.

One thing though, is alot of the events have been on past his bed time and he was in bed by the time we won our three golds and he missed Bolt last night.

I have to be honest and say I have been inspired to make sure my kids get access to as many different sports as possible to give them a chance to excel, so right now we are finding out about what sports are available locally for my eldest to do once he is 5.

Don't be silly. My children will be fit and spritely enough to catch the food they need. Not like the fatties taking 3 steps then wheezing and falling over as the fluffy wuffy bunny wabbit slowly ambles away.

This. I've already found a local swimming club. It will be a hell of a slog mind. 6am swimming 3 times a week, but it's these sort of sacrifices that are necessary.

Haven't tracked down an athletics club that is local enough yet. Loads of pure running clubs, but not multi skill athletic.

Much as it pains me, I might have to sign my boy in for football, as I think he has some skill (even though I never, ever play football with him as I can't kick a moving ball for sh*t). He's desperate to join a rugby team though, so will sign him up for that too next year when he's 5.

I just heard a woman complaining she'd got Olympic bottom and it wasn't muscle defined! Made me lol

As for the games I was cynical but they have been fantastic. Forget the money, forget the overspend (which it was before the last election anyway!), forget G4S, forget politics.
As a patriot I am proud of the country, our athletes, the public, everything. Other than Inverdale and the corporates not using their tickets, this has been the best thing in this country for many years

It's also great to make Mitt Romney look even more of an ass than usual.

Going to the East end was a great idea as it was most in need of regeneration and there's just no space that close in anywhere else.

If rumours are correct we'll be seeing the basketball arena in Rio. The only worry is the stadium. It's beautiful but not the sort of stadium you could happily put 20k people in. That means reconfiguring it to a smaller capacity, as was the original intention and indeed how it's been constructed. Or selling to a football club.

We just moved to a new house and the local high school has a swimming pool, down their on Saturdays and Sundays and the wee fella just swam his first 100 metres unaided and without stopping. No bad for 4.

That is very good. My boy (also 4) hasn't had lessons yet. They only do them at 5 here for some stupid reason.

His cousin, also 4 can swim 11 lenghts without stopping. But he is a freak of nature. He is as tall as an 8 year old and just as physically and mentally devloped too. It is genuinely disturbing. It also helps that they have a pool in their back garden (they live in SA)

edit: Not even my 7 year old have done 4 lenghts yet. In fact it was only yesterday that one of them did their first length, the other managed it a few weeks back.
