Is all this not just a tad academic?

England's 'oversees player' rule was in place when he moved to France was it not? He knew the choice he was making and he made it with his eye's open. If he moved back to England i'd be throw him straight into the EPS.

That's the way I see it in principle. However, if he is THAT good now, efforts to overcome the difficulties may be justified. I haven't seen him since he moved to France. Based on what I saw before he moved, he was not international class, IMO. I'm happy to accept that he has dramatically improved if it is so.

By 'efforts to overcome the difficulties' do you mean ignore the overseas rule? If so I don't think we can justify that on principle. The whole house of cards would come tumbling down. As I said he knew the basis upon which he moved to France.

If you mean that am English club should make a concerted effort to sign him, them fair enough, but I think that any English club who needs Armitage in their squad who approach him when available anyway. Whether the opportunity would be attractive enough for him remains to be seen. I suspect he went to France because the opportunities in England at the time weren't.
