I think "A shame that we have to rely on an ageing carrier to fire us up" is doing him down massively, he offers so much more than an "ageing carrier".

It is a shame because when he is gone, we will miss him. You can interpret what I said however you want, but I know what I meant by it.

Actually if you read my first post again the point I was trying to stress was that the Ospreys and Cardiff fared better last season than their Irish counterparts , because they won silverwear , whereas the Irish did not .
You have misunderstood me or misread my post.
Then again seeing as you have gone down this road , by the season's end the O's were better than leinster , because they took their title off them in Dublin , and there wasn't much between Cardiff and Munster either , if I had to put money on which side were the best I'd go for Cardiff.
Leinster weren't the incumbent ML champs when the O's won it in Dublin.

As for who will do well this season, it's not very clear.

As mentioned, Munster are in a rut, while Leinster have lost most of their coaching staff, and you would think that Cardiff and the O's will be more settled and eager after the way last season finished.

Ah , I was wondering who would spot that deliberate mistake .
I was starting to think no one had noticed.

Personally I'd rate getting into a HC semi final as a bigger achievement than when we won the Challenge Cup.

Having said that winning silverware is always good when it is on offer and winning the Amlin if you are in it can only be a good thing.

However I don't get the mindset that it's better to not qualify for the HC knockouts and win a lesser competition, then to try and get as far as you can in Europe's top competition...

Indeed. By his logic Quins were a better team than Toulouse in 2004...

Oh for Ulster to join Munster in their rut: history making win in France, destroying the form English team culminating in a HC semifinal.

The Amlin is a stronger comp now that teams drop into it from the HC.

It's nice to win things, but the real measure is how you do in the HC- not the ML or Amlin. Having said that though, you could be robbed of progression to the QF/SF by a poor refereeing performance or lose on a penalty shoot out in the semis or by a bad draw.

So silverwear or hc progress isn't a foolproof way of comparing.
