A place to discuss pugilism

Khan vs Katsidis?

"I'm ready for all the big names," Khan said. "If the big names want to fight me, line up."

He'd like to start with Marcos Maidana, a big puncher from Argentina who knocked out Victor Cayo on March 27 to set up a date with WBO titleholder Timothy Bradley.

Maidana wound up backing out of that fight because of a back injury, though, and it's unclear when he'll fight again.

Bradley is another name on Khan's hit list. He's generally regarded as the best in the division and has been largely avoided by the top fighters.

Also in the mix are IBF and WBC champion Devon Alexander, and perhaps lightweight king Juan Manuel Marquez, who is scheduled to fight Juan Diaz in a rematch of their classic fight from last year.

All of those guys could await down the road, and all of them would be terrific fights. But Khan's promoter, Richard Schaefer, tossed around another name that few people had considered.

"He wants Maidana but obviously he's not available," Schaefer said. "What I'd like to do is make a fight with Michael Katsidis. Can you imagine that?"

Katsidis is one of the best action fighters in boxing and won an interim lightweight title by stopping previously unbeaten Kevin Mitchell in the third round Saturday night in London.

Schaefer said that Khan would like to fight again before Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting, which begins Aug. 11. The timing works out well because Marquez faces Diaz in a pay-per-view event July 31 in Las Vegas, and Schaefer has toyed with the idea of doing a split-site doubleheader with Khan fighting in Europe as part of the same telecast.

"Maybe there's that possibility," Schaefer said. "We'll see what we can work out."

Would Katisidis come up or Khan go down? Could be a great fight either way.

Katsidis would go up to 140 I think. He's got the frame for it, but Khan would have a massive reach advantage.

From what I saw at the weekend, despite being the bigger man Khan hasn't got the power to keep Katsidis off him. The Malignaggi fight has me asking more questions of Khan, whilst not answering any. The "big names" at 140 Khan mentions all beat him at the moment, imo.

Putting Khan in with Maidana would be suicide. This fight will never happen. That said, he can't go on fighting Malignaggi's, Kotelnik's and Salita's (i.e. guys with zero power) for much longer if he wants to be taken seriously.

Default Britain's next boxing champ/s

Who's going to be the next big thing?

For me, Grove looks very good at Super Middle. He's inexperienced but looked so darn good to take the Commonwealth title last time out. I see big, big things ahead....

DeGale is a monumental cock but you can't deny he's got killer shot speed, crazy movement and heavy hands. With a bit of focus he might just nick one of the lesser alphabet titles. Doubt he'll go any further though, he's like a slightly sh*t Prince Naseem - once he meets his Barrera it will be all over.

Cleverley is close to a title bid. I can't put my finger on it but I see a bit of Enzo Mac in him - I hope I'm wrong but I see him getting clobbered pretty soon.

Chisora absolutely smashed Danny Boy last month. In a field of f*cking awful heavyweights and a soon-retiring Vitali could he do a Bruno and briefly hold a lesser title? With the big lads you're only ever one punch away from glory - you never know....

Tyson Fury is a huge..... no, I can't bring myself to big the pikey up

Who else have we got coming up the ranks?

I'd say Cleverly is the best bet. I'd say there's more of a Calzaghe than Enzo in him, i think he's got a bright future.

Has his chin taken a decent shot yet? I hope I'm wrong - he has a world eliminator coming up (in theory)

edit: did you see Grove's last fight? It's all I've seen of him but something clicked... I have one of my "hunches"
