Printer = HP LaserJet CP2025
Connected via USB to a Window XP 32 bit computer
Shared on the Windows 2008 AD Network
Problem = connecting a Windows 7 32 bit PC to the shared printer. I can browse and see the printer on the network, but it won't download a driver from Windows update and it won't recognise the HP PCL6 UPDas a valid driver.
Any ideas.
Liz. I've tried turning it off and turning it back on again... BUT IT WON'T WORK.

Update: I've found this and will try it tomorrow.

Before installing the driver, is suggest you open Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features and delete the printer driver that is already installed.
Then, please install the downloaded driver. Most printer driver installation program will prompt that if you would like to install a local printer or a network shard printer. Then select the correct option and finish the installation.
If the driver installation program does not help in this, follow the steps below to add a shard printer.
1. Click Start, click Control Panel and double click Devices and Printers.
2. Click Add a Printer.
3. Select "Add a local printer".
4. Select "Create a new port". Choose "Local Port" as the type of the port.
5. In the box "Enter a port name", type the address as the following format.
\\[IP address of the host computer]\[The Share Name of the printer]
Then click Next.
6. Follow the instruction to finish the installation. During installing, choose the correct driver in the driver list.

Is it an HP 2025N? Have tried downloading PCL5 drivers? You have a PM.

Win2008 is a 64 bit O/S right? Maybe you need to go to the additional drivers page on the server, and add the 32 bit version
I'd suggest adding the win7 driver on the xp machine, the server 2008 domain won't make a difference

Thanks, I'll give you a buzz. It's not an N, just the bog standard printer.

Yes it is 64bit, but it's not shared off the server, which only provides AD services in this instance in the form of a resource location token.

It's not an available option, XP only offers a limited number of possibilities in this respect and when you try adding the HP UPD it tells you that the driver has no description of the installed hardware.
