Knights aiming to kick start their cup campaign against Melrose

Doncaster Knights kick off their British and Irish Cup campaign by entertaining Scottish Premiership outfit Melrose RFC at Castle Park tomorrow (KO 14:30).

Brett Davey has named a side packed with first team regulars, demonstrating both a high regard to Saturday’s opposition and how significant the competition is for the Knights this season. One exciting change to the starting line up is the inclusion of Dan Smith who is making his first start since the Knights pre-season game with Newcastle Falcons in August. Formerly a lock forward the Doncaster DoR converted Smith to the wing to utilise the 6’5 powerhouse’s deceptive speed and agility.

Another notable inclusion sees the return of the consistent Tom Luke from injury, who will be wearing the ten shirt and pulling the strings at fly-half with Jamie Lennard lining up at full back. Andy Brown makes his first start of the season after impacting from the bench in each of Doncaster’s last four games.

There are two changes to the back row that started against Leeds Carnegie as David Bradford makes his second home start in a row and Andy Boyde is given the nod at blindside flanker.
